HIPPO & FLEMING LAW OFFICES ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY, TRACI L. NAUGLE ANNOUNCES DISTRICT 3 PLAYOFFS FOR THE STATEWIDE MOCK TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

March 7, 2007

Hippo & Fleming Law Offices Associate Attorney, Traci L. Naugle announces District 3 Playoffs for the Statewide Mock Trial Championships on March 8, 2007 at the Blair County Courthouse, beginning at 6:00 pm.

Punxsutawney High School, Forest Hills High School, Indiana High School and Hollidaysburg Area High School will be participating in the District 3 Playoffs. The two winning teams will represent District 3 in the Regional Competition.

Sponsored statewide by the Pennsylvania Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, the mock trial competition gives eight-member student teams the opportunity to argue both sides of a case in an actual courtroom before a judge. The students, who play the roles of lawyers, witnesses, plaintiffs and defendants, are assisted by teacher coaches and lawyer advisors in preparing for competition. Volunteer lawyers and community leaders serve as jurors in the trials. The juries determine the winners in each trial based on the teams' abilities to prepare their cases, present arguments and follow court rules.

The district level competitions will continue throughout February and March with 12 teams advancing to the PBA Statewide Mock Trial Championships, March 30-March 31, in Harrisburg. The winner of the state championship will represent Pennsylvania at the national mock trial finals in May in Dallas, Texas. Pennsylvania's mock trial program is one of the largest in the nation.

This year's mock trial case centers on a series of threatening remarks that appeared on a high school-run Internet chat room, which a student claims caused severe emotional distress resulting in lower grades and loss of a valedictorian scholarship.

For more information on the 2007 PBA Statewide Mock Trial Championships and to read this year's case, visit the Young Lawyers Division pages on the PBA Web site at www.pabar.org or contact Traci Naugle at 814-943-5500.

Pennsylvania's mock trial program is partially funded by the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation.

Founded in 1895, the Pennsylvania Bar Association strives to promote justice, professional excellence and respect for the law; improve public understanding of the legal system; facilitate access to legal services; and serve the 29,000 lawyers who are members of the association.
